SUNSUN HBL 501 Hang on Filter with Skimmer

The Sunsun HBL 501 hinged filter belongs to the category of external aquarium filters but differs from both external canister and internal filters.

A hinged filter is located on the outside of one of the aquarium walls. Water intake is carried out through a kinked intake pipe, if necessary, equipped with a sponge prefilter. Back water enters the aquarium through the “waterfall” overflow – sometimes such aquariums are called “cascade”.

Due to the positioning on the outside of the aquarium, the hinged filter does not clutter up the internal space of the aqua system. Unlike the internal filter, it has a much larger useful volume, where the filter elements are located, which significantly improves the quality of filtration. Also, a larger filter volume allows you to easily place in it, in addition to mechanical filter elements (sponges), also biological and chemical fillers such as ceramics and activated carbon.

Aeration of water in such filters is “surface”, that is, it is carried out by mixing water with air when passing through the “waterfall”.

Also, the Sunsun HBL 501 filter has a surface skimmer in its design to remove grease film from the water surface and small floating debris.
